Classic RPG Update

Here's a quick, point-by-point overview of what I'd like to do.

Story
• Summery
o In a nut shell, you play as the antagonist of a prophesy story the one who is to become the destroyer of the world but something goes wrong. The world deviates from the prophesy and the good guys start acting like the bad guys. This is a story of twists and turns. The prophesy is fake, the Church is just controlling people, some of the bad guys turn out to be good guys and vice versa. The destroyer is the savior and the hero turn into a villain. At the heart of everything is a story about a woman and her search to understand her faith and her god. Yes I said woman.

Here is a slightly more detailed explanation of the back story.

• The World
o Long ago, the devil went to war with God with the pawns being humans. The war waged on for decades and nearly ravaged the world until at last the devil was defeated and imprisoned in the decimated earth that he had fought so desperately for. To keep his creation, humans, far from his influence God took the nations that were loyal to him during the war and raised them into the sky and enshrouded them with a veil forever sealing the devil from his influence. However, man was had been stung by the devil’s venom long ago and the seeds of evil still existed so when ever the hubris of man grows the veil weakens and the devil stretches his hand into the floating world leaving parts of himself into objects giving them immense power and when enough of them are combined he can use them to enter into the world. Only a person after God’s own heart can defeat him.
• The Story
o The time has come. The devil’s influence has reached its precipice and now all that is left is hunt down and destroy the devil’s objects or, if that fails, find a man after God’s own heart and fight back. The Church, God’s voice in the world, initiates the plan to protect the world. Send out one to gather all the objects and become the vessel for the devil and another to find a person after God’s own heart and train them to defeat the vessel. The story follows the vessel and her and her parties travels to gather the objects and their quest to understand the truth of the devil, the war, and the world.

Gameplay
• Battle System
o This is a Tactics RPG, basically a more awesome version of chess on a much cooler board. However, I don’t want this to play like a Final Fantasy Tactics clone. Tactics was a good game and I want to emulate it rather, not copy/paste it. That being said I don’t have a whole lot of ideas as to make the battle system unique enough to stand on its own all ideas a welcome.
• Over World
o I’m thinking of having a big over world map with points of interest (towns, battle locations, etc.). I know I said that I wanted this to be different from Tactics but that system really lends itself to this style of RPG
Art
• Overall
o The game takes place in two major locations, the surface of the Earth and the continents orbiting it. I think that each of these should be unique from each other. I’m thinking that the floating continents should have a stained glass, cathedral theme (like in color palate, architecture, landscape) while the Earth should look like it was made with pastels, bright, bold colors in an untamed landscape.
Music
• Overall
o Big, orchestral, any other synonym of EPIC. I want this game to feel big, to feel like we’re seeing a small bit of a large scale event in history. The events of the game will change the face of the entire planet and I want everything, especially the music, to showcase that.

I've always been a huge RPG fan, Tactics Ogre was one of my favs back then. I'd be up for helpin however I could, but my programming experience is relatively weak.

Thanks. I'll do my best to come up with a real pitch in the near future and not just some vague story outline.

Hey, so last meeting there were some people who expressed interest in working on this project. I am sorry to say this but I'm going to have to shelve this idea for the time being. There wasn't enough people to really get this project started and there are I will be working on other projects within the club so I won't be able to be a develop this project as it deserves.
