Welcome to Game Developers of UNT!

To get started on this forum, introduce yourself to the community here. Some information you might include would be your name, your major, your area of interest in game development, and your favorite types of games. You might also include any past experience you have in your area of interest.

It's helpful to make your avatar a picture of yourself, so your fellow club members can recognize you at meetings and around campus.

We are very excited about this new venture and hope to see all of you at our future meetings.

Fall 2012 Introductions page Empty ...First? Oh well, Hello!

Post  Greysoup Sat Aug 11, 2012 9:39 pm

Hi, my name is Logan Campbell and I'll be a freshman this year at UNT. My major is Computer Science even though I have very very little experience in programming, I would love to work on it for some games. I guess right now my favorite types of game would have to be RPG's. Things like Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Bioshock. Like I said, I don't have much experience in this area of programming yet but I'm hoping to learn some this year with maybe the help of some members?

So yeah, I'll post my schedule as soon as I can to let you know when I'm available Smile

Hell0, I'm Paul Emile Gerard and I am a Junior at UNT. My major at the moment is PCSI though eventually it will be Computer Science. I am not sure if I want to be a game developer but I figured this group would help me learn more about the field.

As for my favorite type of games that would be fighting games. Straight-forword in their goal, complex in gameplay strategy, and with 99 sec rounds you can either enjoy a few rounds in a small amount of time or spend hours playing. Though I move around Genres and I like Genre-bending more than anything else (if done well).

my gamertag for xbox 360 is General Tobias If anyone cares to add me. Though I don't have a whole lot of time for gaming and when I do it will probably be Persona 4 Arena, Lost Planet 2, or the upcoming Resident Evil 6. That and gaming in person is way way way better than online.

Fall 2012 Introductions page Empty Yo

Post  LakotaDera Thu Aug 30, 2012 11:36 am

I go by Kota, short for Lakota. My full legal name is just annoying: being a string of five names together. I hold a B.S. in Biology and am attending UNT for a M.S. in Computer Science. (only scary when you look at the number of minors I completed, lol)

My current gaming addiction would be Guild Wars 2. To say the least, I love a good RPG, but my interests lie more in developing simulators. A current project that has captured my interest is one that is under development at UTD where they are attempting to make a real world simulator for military application engineered to train special ops on dealing with the stresses of being dropped into a foreign culture where they may encounter hostiles, yet must fulfill a civil services objective. Sound fun as hell, am I right?

Okay so maybe it interests just me, but there is a very good example of what I like.

Hopefully I'll see you guys around. All depends on the class and work schedule.

Fall 2012 Introductions page Empty Hey whats up!

Post  GGthegamer Wed Sep 05, 2012 10:50 pm

Hey I'm Kenny. I am a sophmore at UNT for the Information Technologies major (Engineering). GGthegamer is just the tag I came up with for League of Legends. I am a predominant xbox gamer but I do like ps3. I'm just recently trying to get into computer games. I am just now trying to get into horror games (I have no shame in fearing them) but enjoy most other types of games. I'm very eager to see how to tinker inside of the development of games though I have no formal background with games or computers. Hope to have lots of fun with you guys.

Hello names Daniel and I am a man of many talents and many tastes. As far as game development is concerned I'm primarily a writer, but I am also a talented musician. I play guitar, violin, and I sing. I'm not bad at writing music, but I have limited experience with music making software, so I prefer to write stories apposed to lyrics.

As far as my choice of games, the two genres that I'm primarily interested in are RTSs and RPGs, But that's a generalization; I'm a huge Metroid and Mageman fan for instance. It's hard to say what my absolute favorite game is, but I'm partial to Planescape: Torment (Breath of Fire 3 and Starcraft being close runner-ups).

I'm not just into videogames, I'm also an avid D&D and Magic: the Gathering player.

Fall 2012 Introductions page Empty Hello

Post  FANSChair Thu Sep 20, 2012 5:41 pm

Hello, I'm Jason. I spoke briefly at a meeting a week back about potentially publishing articles and reviews on gaming.

I have a bit of a laundry list of activities and interests, several of which can be found in my signature. I'm also a UNT History PhD student and occasional author in the NT Daily. I also run the social media sites for A-Kon, publish on anime and manga fandom, and generally do what I can to encourage all varieties of fandom and research and writing on them.

I hope to see some write-ups from some of you on various aspects of gaming and GDUNT (game production group dynamics, play testing, video game reviews and critiques, analyses of gaming styles, literary/cinematic criticism of game narratives, etc.) and publish them in The Phoenix Papers. I'll post in the appropriate forum section with details for that.

In the meantime, game on.

I'm Mallory, majoring in Studio art and classified as a Junior even though I won't be graduating for awhile (just couldn't decide what to stick with!) :B

I'd say my main interest is in just doing projects in general, as long as they will both look good on a potential resume and actually be completed by the end of the semester. I'm very open-minded and flexible on said projects, as long as it is reasonable and able to completed within a feasible time schedule. I also enjoy discussing the entire spectrum of the game with everyone involved, though, because making it verbal somehow helps to iron out everything.

A potentially good side of having me on a game dev team is that I can be a beast when it comes to getting a lot of art done - if a game is lacking something, I will ensure it gets what it needs, even if that means I lose sleep~ :D

Additionally, I have experience in creating complete games, though it was through a dorky medium ;D I seriously spent weeks and weeks making pixel art / coding the scripts for it, too, so expect the same level of attention from me for any other kind of project I join! I work as an official game artist for a pixel-art based MMOSG called Furcadia as well (no, I'm not a furry, I just like the game-building aspects of this particular MMO!)

Also, here's my website and deviantART account, if you're interested.
